Above all, our goal is to effectively coordinate assistance from Ukraine so that we can run a successful marathon of mutual aid – a marathon, not a sprint.

Despite the many signs of an impending war in Ukraine, most of us did not allow ourselves to think that it could happen. When the war suddenly broke out, smaller NGOs as well as private individuals quickly mobilized and spontaneously began to organize aid to refugees. A river of donations and people willing to take action began to flow to the border.

However, the aid often stopped at the border due to the information chaos and lack of coherent crisis management on the Polish and Ukrainian sides, leaving refugees without adequate humanitarian support in besieged cities. On the second day of the chaos, several volunteers made their way to the Ukrainian side to deliver blankets and warm tea to freezing women and children.

This was the beginning of our relief project, which over time has grown much larger than any of us could have imagined…
